Community Education

Adult Education Service South East facilitates and supports community-based adult learning. In conjunction with local community groups and the voluntary sector, we organise and deliver courses to a wide range of groups across the South East area. Community Education allows learners to identify their own needs and the desires of their communities. Courses are developed in collaboration with communities and delivered locally.

Community Education programmes reduce the fear of returning to education by providing courses that will build confidence, communication, social, personal skills and also encourage learners to engage in active citizenship, further education and employment.

By registering as a partner with the Adult Education Service you will be able to apply for funding in the form of tuition hours to deliver locally-based, learner-centred Further Education and Training courses

Due to the volume of applications received priority is given to:

  • Community based groups supporting Women/ Men experiencing disadvantage
  • Older people
  • One parent families
  • Early school leavers
  • People with disabilities
  • The unemployed, especially the long term unemployed
  • Travellers
  • Homeless people Substance misusers and their families
  • Ex-offenders and their families

Community Education aims to enhance learning and empower people in society. It is a distinctive element of the Adult Education sector in Ireland and has the capacity to reach marginalised people in disadvantaged communities
